EMC Lifestyles -Tweed - "When I think about perseverance a fable comes to mind about the tortoise and the hare and their race and the challenge they had between the two of them," said St. Carthagh School teacher Michelle Vader who addressed the school's students at the Terrific Kids assembly.

"The fable reminds us we do have to work hard and if we try our best we will create success like the tortoise. It is not necessarily completing your work because your teacher or your parent constantly reminds you to, but working on your own because you really want to work hard and have success. All of the students who are rewarded by the Tweed Kiwanis today are students who display the attributes of hard work and staying with the task."
At the assembly the Green Team did a presentation and explained how two new large blue boxes supplied by Quinte Waste would be used to simplify the recycled goods the school collects.
The Terrific Parent award this month went to Richard Rashotte and he was picked by Maureen Porter's class because he has visited that class once a week for the last two years and has been helping students.
After the assembly Al McNeil went into three classrooms and spoke with each class about the Bring Up your Grades (BUG) program and rewarded three students for their accomplishments.
"Before Christmas I came to each class and reminded students that we would be coming around and we gave them a little challenge after the New Year to see how much progress was being made. This award is for students who are working hard all the time to bring up their grades. I will return in about one month to see who has been able to bring up their marks one grade level," said, Al.
Shayla Cassidy actually was able to bring up her reading level by three grades since before Christmas.
