EMC News -Stirling - Andrew Marre is a proud Canadian.

The retired Stirling resident, who also holds volunteer positions as President of Stirling Rotary and Chair of the Stirling Festival Theatre, was recently sworn in as a new Canadian and says the Kingston, Ontario, ceremony last week was a moving one. Soon after arriving from the U.K. in 2007, Marre explains, he decided to become a Canadian citizen. And following the three-year residency requirement, Marre was ready to take the oath.

He shared the special moment with 75 others from a total of 28 different countries who took the oath in both French and English. Sponsors who accompanied the new Canadians were also encouraged to repeat the oath, he adds, which he compared to a renewal of marriage vows. One new Canadian in their group has lived here for 57 years.

In England Marre worked in government communications, including a stretch as Deputy Press Secretary to Prime Minister John Major. He has lived in Stirling since 2008.
