Dave Phillips and Mo Gunning are seen here accepting a cheque from Tweed Lions Club members Lena James and Gloria Derrett at the February 11 jamboree.
"The Tweed Minor Softball Association greatly appreciates the Lions Club's annual support," said Tweed Minor Softball President Mo Gunning. "The contribution of the Lions Club in combination with other contributors make a significant difference toward keeping softball affordable for families."
Mo said equipment, insurance and umpires are the big expenditures.
"In 2011 we saw a slight increase in numbers with some age groups looking to hopefully put three teams into the Centre Hastings League. Our midget division may expand from one to two entries while the T-ball and Rookie groups maintain very promising numbers."
Mo added that there is always a need for more volunteers, "Adult support is always an issue and hopefully with registration early in April, many of our parents and interested community friends will make their time available."
For info contact Mo Gunning at 613-478-3225 or David Phillips at 613-478-6605.
"The February 11 jamboree was sold out," said Lions member Cathy Pym. "Accordion player Elly Kelly was very entertaining and the Lions Club appreciate the ongoing support from the community."
The next Jamboree is March 9 at the White Building in Tweed and will feature Brian Cosbey and friends who will be the backup band, Stompin' Jon who does a Stompin' Tom tribute, Paige Rombough, Debbie McLean, yours truly (Scott Pettigrew) and Mitch Barker.
